My Africa

My Africa

The tears in my eyes slowly fall
And bounce unnoticed,
Off glossy images of my Africa,
The ache in my heart,
Fills me with wanting
For my big sky country, my fair Cape,
Rainbow thoughts
For my Rainbow nation,
I dream of you
And quietly pine away
Wishing for a chance to return.

Deep tenors of Zulu beats reverberate,
Echo deep in my soul
And soothe the wanting, a little.
Africa, oh my Africa,
Nkosi Sikelel' iAfrika,
Land of us all, my mother,
I dream of return to your womb,
A distant land,
Held once, close to hand,
Now exists in my soul,
And talks to me,
In the silent darkness, of my English winter.
