The Grey Room

The Grey Room

I yearn desperately for sleep to take me,
So I can again be with you,
Golden and perfect and mine, this slender world brings us together
As it should be.
A fragrant kiss on your subtle cheek
bring real tears
in this most delicate existence.
I lay beside you, our bodies touch,
I feel your heartbeat quicken, your delicious gasp
as my hands journey your smooth world.
But as soon as belief in this most tenuous ecstasy becomes universal
the truth beckons,
my grey reality demands attention
and reluctantly, with a struggle
I am ripped from you.
My bleary eyes at first refuse to see my prison walls
the boundless distance from you,
Driving rain, gloomy skies mirror my sadness,
as once again, another soulless day with you
demands to be met.
